Grasso Technical High School in Groton, CT To be considered for this position, School Counselors must posses an active State of Connecticut certificate: Endorsement 068.�You may verify your credentials are up-to-date here. Those who hold a Masters degree in School Counseling may be considered for this role with a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP.) LOCATION:�Ella T. Grasso Technical High School in Groton, CT SALARY: VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers. ACADEMIC CALENDAR: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.) YOUR ROLE� A CTECS School counselor is responsible for implementing a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive, preventative, school counseling program that covers the academic, career, and social emotional domains and is aligned with the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework and ASCA professional school counselor standards, ethical standards, and Mindsets & Behaviors. School counselors work to maximize and support student success, while promoting access and equity to education for all students. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Facilitate small groups and short-term individual counseling using DBT-A and Restorative Practices. • Teach classroom school counseling lessons as part of the CTECS Comprehensive School Counseling Framework. • Conduct annual individual planning meetings with students and families in grades 9-12. • Assist students with postsecondary planning. • Collect and analyze data to document the results of strategies and interventions that are used. to improve student outcomes and to make programmatic decisions. • Collaborate with central office, administration, teachers, families, and other staff to support school and district improvement goals. • Participate in meetings to review and provide multi-tiered systems of support to students. • Serve as a lead in 504 meetings and 504 plan management for students. • Advocate for equitable access to programs and services, and compassionate and just treatment of all students. • Participate in professional development activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework (CCSCF) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. Experience utilizing best practices and methodologies in school counseling, aligned with current state and national standards Experience with career & college counseling Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Experience working effectively and collaboratively with school leadership, staff, families and the community Experience utilizing technology and data to address student and departmental needs Experience utilizing strong public relations, organizational and problem solving skills. Experience showing high standards of ethics, honesty and integrity. Experience working with 504 plans and student populations. Experience with school based DBT-A (dialectical behavioral therapy). Experience with restorative practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
