We are committed to serving all Coloradans and offer access to our state’s history through enriching experiences at eleven museums and historic sites, with dynamic and relevant exhibits and activities. We steward about 15 million objects, photographs, and archival resources that make up the State’s collection, and serve tens of thousands of learners of all ages through dynamic programs. We work with school groups and youth through field trips, day camps, and traveling programs across the state of Colorado. We’re home to a free public research center, Colorado’s Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP), and the State Historical Fund (SHF), the nation’s largest preservation program of its kind.
The History Colorado AmeriCorps Program endeavors to address three broad areas of community need across the state: equitable K-12th grade educational outcomes, quality history educational programming, and the tools to preserve and share a more inclusive Colorado history. Position Summary
The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the AmeriCorps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

Description Of Job
Position Summary
The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the AmeriCorps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.
Terms of Service
- The Member will serve at the Trinidad History Museum .
- The AmeriCorps member will serve for an average of 20 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 900 hours over the course of their service term.
- Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.
- The AmeriCorps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
- Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027 .
- Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.
- Facilitate educational outreach such as: field trips, classroom visits, and other interactive educational activities.
- Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
- Lead tours and engage visitors by sharing site-specific and historical information.
- Provide front-line visitor support, including answering questions, offering information about exhibits and programs, and enhancing the overall visitor experience. Represent the museum at community and school events such as parent-teacher conferences, resource fairs, and farmers markets to promote program offerings.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the ongoing improvement of educational initiatives. .
- Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
- March–May: Assist with spring educational programming, including camps, field trips, and outreach activities.
- May–August: Support Summer Camp with prep, facilitation, and clean-up.
