Payroll CHOP Check Desk: Accounting Technician will create and process CHOP checks for all agencies on a daily basis. Will answer questions and train agency payroll and human resources professionals in processing of CHOP checks and agency payroll entry. Will work with agencies or employees to determine the delivery method of CHOP checks. This includes walk-ins, delivery, assigned mailbox, or mailing of the check.  

A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 
  • CHOP Entry - Daily entry of CHOP check requests from the agencies, ensure deadlines are met each day. Ensure the CHOP checks are in balance. If not, work closely with the agency for correction and resubmit. Obtain approval signatures from agencies for CHOP checks, scan copies to ensure all CHOP checks are entered into the banking system so employees can cash the checks. Scan copies with backup for daily auditing. 
  • Payroll Keying - Daily payroll keying in the CPPS system that agencies do not have access to. This includes all PAWs, BAWs, overpayments, pre-paid insurance, cancels, and voids. Ensure deadlines are met for batches prior to all payroll cutoff dates and payroll processing so the employee record and payroll check is reflected correctly.
  • Mail, Blackbag and Scanning Documents - Distribute incoming mail to central payroll and outgoing mail to be delivered to agencies. Answer inquiries related to mail distribution problems and delays. Work with IDS on blackbag questions and deliveries. Scan various paperwork within the department.
  • Verification of Employment Inquiries - Manage the verification of employment process. Work with the vendor and agencies to ensure VOEs are receiving correct information for their employees.
  • IRS Restriction Letters - Process IRS restriction letters to agencies prior to payroll deadlines to ensure proper tax deductions are withheld from employees payroll checks.

If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will also be used as part of the comparative analysis process to identify a top group for further consideration.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
 
*Education and Experience: 


At least three years of experience in accounting or payroll; Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
