Position Title: Deputy Press Secretary
Hiring Range: $60,000-$72,000
Expected Annual Travel: Occasional in-state travel as needed
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Press Secretary and is part of the Communications Team in the Governor’s office. This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.
Position Summary
Supports the Press Secretary and Communications Director to ensure the Governor, Lt. Governor, and First Gentleman are prepared for all speaking and media engagements (i.e. media availability, interviews, speeches and public appearances), works closely with the policy team on content.

Description Of Job
Position Title: Deputy Press Secretary

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Extremely organized and be able to handle the high volume of media inquiries
- Responsible for drafting all press releases and media advisories; in a busy week the office can send up to 15 press releases
- Responsible for preparing materials for media interviews, press conferences, community engagement and press requests
- Support logistics and assist the press secretary with responding to requests and coordinating interviews for television, radio and print/digital media
- Supports rapid response and crisis communication
- Support communications department work to coordinate with statewide agency PIO’s as needed
- Participate in event planning logistics for Gov. and Lt. Gov, including the Governor’s news conferences
- Responsible for ensuring that protocol is met during Gov. and Lt. Gov speaking engagements
- Will assist with sound equipment for news conferences and public events hosted by the office
- Works well under pressure and in a deadline driven environment
- Complete research assignments as directed in a timely manner
- Staffing the Governor, First Gentleman or Lt. Governor for public events and interviews as needed
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Preferred minimum of one to two years experience in communications, media relations and other related experience.
- Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, nights and weekends.
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.
- Works well under pressure and in a deadline driven environment
- Experience in and/or working with diverse constituencies and communities of color desired.
- Additional language skills desired but not required.
- Familiarity with AP Style
