Description of Job

IT Division
The IT Division provides information systems and computer support for employees, customers of the Department of State, and therefore the people of Colorado. Most of the work completed by the division can be done remotely, contributing to the positive work-life balance of its employees. Staff develops, upgrades, enhances, and maintains computer applications and system software, hardware, and peripherals for the use of Departmental staff, Colorado counties, and the general public. Processing and storing data received from Colorado counties for voter registration, charitable gaming licenses, UCC filings, domestic and foreign corporations, notary, campaign finance, and lobbyist systems. The Colorado Department of State is unique from many state agencies in that we are a smaller agency with an in-house IT division, as a result our employees maintain greater collective impact over the work product of the Department.

Illustration of key duties:
As the Systems Engineer - Windows (Hybrid), you will be a valuable member of the IT Division. This position will provide Systems Administration and support including, but not limited to, the technologies listed below.
  • Microsoft 365 services (Entra ID/Azure, Teams, Intune, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online etc.)
  • Cloud-based infrastructure and services (Virtual machines, App Services, Azure functions, Storage, Database, Identity and Security).
  • Cloud Migration and Integration to Azure.
  • Microsoft Windows administration and third-party software.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
S:
This position requires a total of three years in applicable systems engineering experience and/or education in a field of study related to the work. To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet one of the following options outlined below:

OPTION 1 – Experience
Three (3) years of combined professional experience in Systems Administration and support to include at least two of the following areas: Microsoft 365 services, Microsoft Active Directory, Cloud Migration & Integration or Microsoft Windows Administration

OPTION 2 - Education and/or Experience combined
– Be sure you’ve attached a copy of your unofficial transcript to qualify for this option.
A combination of related education such as graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or Engineering, a related formalized apprenticeship program, certification, and/or relevant experience working as a systems engineer as outlined in Option 1 for a total of three (3) years.
Education may substitute for professional experience on a year-for-year basis. (24 relevant and passing credit hours is equal to one year).

The exceptional candidate will possess these identified knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies
:
  • Preference will be given to those candidates with previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Expertise in cloud managed services.
  • Experience with the following Microsoft 365 services: Entra ID/Azure, Teams, Intune, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online etc.
  • Understand cybersecurity principles and best practices, including implementing security measures and managing access controls.
  • Monitor system performance, identifying issues, and troubleshooting problems to ensure up-time.
  • Microsoft Exchange and Email Gateway protection support and maintenance & administration.
  • SQL maintenance & administration experience.
  • PowerShell and windows scripting.

Appeal Rights:

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
