Job Duties: This position serves as a skilled trades supervisor responsible for directly supervising a small team of specialized carpenters who travel statewide to perform skilled work in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, and painting to maintain state buildings and infrastructure.

Responsibilities include identifying material needs and purchasing supplies; maintaining and repairing tools, machinery, and equipment used in trade-related tasks; and safely operating a variety of hand and power tools, as well as heavy equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and backhoes. The position is also responsible for maintaining accurate records of materials used, work completed, and repairs performed.

This role works closely with park staff and other trade professionals to ensure projects are completed correctly, safely, and in a timely manner. The supervisor provides guidance and training to apprentices and less experienced workers as needed.

This position requires statewide travel Monday through Thursday. Vehicle, lodging, and meal expenses are provided. Applicants must possess a valid license, and a drivers record check will be performed.

KAS: Advanced knowledge and experience in one or more skilled trades, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, or painting. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to execute installations and repairs accurately. Ability to diagnose issues, determine solutions, and execute repairs efficiently. Ability to operate and maintain trade-specific tools, equipment, and machinery safely and effectively. Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques to extend the lifespan of equipment and infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required, plus at least two (2) years of experience in General Construction or more skilled trades. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee's demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Job Summary

The Skilled Tradesman Supervisor/Expert is responsible for overseeing and managing skilled trades operations within a department. This position involves supervising and coordinating the work of skilled trades professionals in areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, welding, and general facility maintenance. The Skilled Tradesman Supervisor/Expert ensures that all maintenance, repair, and construction projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of skilled trades workers, ensuring productivity, quality work, and adherence to safety standards. Assign tasks and monitor work progress to ensure timely and efficient project completion. Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to trades personnel in areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and welding. Plan, prioritize, and oversee maintenance, repair, and construction projects, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met. Perform advanced skilled trades work as needed, including troubleshooting and repairing complex issues in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or masonry systems. Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify needed repairs or improvements.

Knowledge And Skills

Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in one or more skilled trades, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, or welding. Experience operating and maintaining tools, machinery, and heavy equipment related to skilled trades. Strong knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, building codes, and OSHA standards.

OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
