Job Summary
Applies Engineering technology to the planning, functional design, operation and management of transportation facilities in order to provide for the safe,efficient, and economical movement of people and goods.
Assignments require working in the field in various weather conditions, in-state overnight travel. Rotate during EIT program through different areas of assignment including construction, project management, and design.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties
Performs engineering duties and task related to project development, construction.and operations with oversight from supervisors. Design plans.
Analyze data related to materials, safety,construction parameters and specifications. Research & Review information & plans, performs calculations and write reports related to assigned project (s).
Inspect contractor work to ensure adherence to design & approved plan specification. Document preparation and processing for reimbursement and compliance. Utilizes computer software and modeling package to perform the assigned task(s)/project (s).
Knowledge Of
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Bachelors of Science - Civil Engineering or equivalent, or four years' experience in transportation engineering field.
Pre-Employment Requirements
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
Fundamental of Engineering (FE) Certification has to be completed by 2 years from their state hire date.
Valid driver's license.
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

- Knowledge of project design process, plan preparation and fundamental design concepts for roadways, bridges and associated traffic.
- Knowledge of project development process including funding scope and scheduling.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods as well as construction standards and specification.
- Knowledge of design and construction contract and the administration associated with these contracts.
- Knowledge of Engineering related to transportation systems and maintenance operation.
- Skills in the use of engineering and design software.
- Skills associated with the development and construction of transportation projects.
- Ability to prepare both design and construction cost estimates for project. -Work in inclement weather conditions.
