The nonpartisan Legislative Affairs Agency provides objective, accurate, and timely services and products to the Alaska Legislature and Alaskans to support and inform policy making, facilitate public access to the legislative process, and preserve the legislative institution.

Working in seamless partnership across sections, staff approach their tasks with professionalism, grace, and courtesy in supporting the challenging and vital work of the legislative branch.

The Legislative Affairs Agency, Supply Section, is recruiting for a Supply Officer. The position is a full-time position starting soon. The Supply Officer is required to be politically neutral. The Supply Officer position will work 40 hours per week.

Job Summary

The Supply Officer assist the Agency Property Officer with the control and disposal of non-IT legislative fixed assets,

conducts property inventories and maintains records. The Supply Officer makes purchases and coordinates with vendors

and assist with legislative office relocations for the supply office. The Supply Officer supervises the activities and

employees in the Capitol supply room under general supervision of the Procurement Officer.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist the Agency Property Officer with all non-IT state property control and disposal for the legislature and related offices, conducts annual property inventory, and maintains inventory records.
  • Answers request and prepares reports about supplies from legislators and legislative staff.
  • Issues and delivers office supplies to legislators and legislative staff.
  • Supervises supply room activities and employees, oversees employee workload and production provides training and sets priorities.
  • Performs basic maintenance and repairs on copiers and other office equipment. Assist with duties of Capitol mail room/warehouse staff when staff is on leave or absent.
  • Assist the mailroom/warehouse staff with the maintenance of all legislative vehicles and maintains document files on all vehicles and a maintenance log.
  • Assist the Warehouse Specialist with preparation and submits all appropriate documents to Risk Management on all legislative vehicles when accidents occur.
  • Makes purchases, assist with arrangement of deliveries, and contacts vendors.
  • Supervise and assist with the planning for the relocation of legislator offices, supplies, equipment, and files in the Capitol Complex and storage areas.
  • Supervises the relocation of files, equipment, and other office contents when moving district office space locations, and twice annually between the Capitol and district office locations for legislative session.
  • Conducts interviews with the Procurement Officer for all supply room staff new hires.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the legislative property inventory system and agency procurement procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of general office equipment and office supplies.
  • Basic knowledge of the Alaska Legislature, state government and legislative procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of correct business practices for large-scale organizations regarding property control and purchasing.
  • Working knowledge of the use of computer systems and software in a business environment.
  • Ability to supervise others; plan, organize and direct work; and evaluate results and alternative strategies.
  • Ability to lift, stack and carry supplies, furniture and equipment up to 80 lbs. as necessary.
  • Ability to write and speak clearly, concisely and in a well-organized manner and the ability to communicate and perform effectively and diplomatically with personal contacts.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately analyze complicated information.
  • Ability to act professionally, objectively and impartially in dealing with legislators and public.
  • Ability to work independently and handle a variety of projects at the same time. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • The potential for flexible work schedules during interim when the legislature is not in session.
  • Agency staff may accrue as compensatory time up to 150 hours of hours worked over the standard work week. There is no cash value to compensatory time.
  • The State offers paid leave starting at 6:04 (hh:mm) a pay period or 21 days a year. If you have previous time working for the State of Alaska in a leave eligible position, the time will be calculated into your accrual rate.
  • 12 paid State holidays each year.
  • The Legislative Affairs Agency is a family-friendly employer.
  • The Alaska State Legislature has an onsite daycare with priority given to legislative employees’ children.
  • An assigned parking space may be available upon request.



Bachelor’s degree or at least one year of relevant work experience practice.

Valid Alaska driver’s license with clean driving record.
