WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
As an Office Assistant 3, you will perform a wide range of clerical duties in support of the Alaska State Troopers for C Detachment's Kotzebue Post. This position provides the Sergeant and Troopers assigned to Kotzebue Post support in the areas of judicial services, case management, payroll, evidence management, and general clerical. In this position, you will learn a variety of skills and a broad working knowledge of the Division of Alaska State Troopers that will prepare you for many promotional opportunities.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is located and works full-time out of the Alaska State Trooper post located in Kotzebue, Alaska. The work environment is friendly, team oriented and productive.

  • Experience and skill with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities from several sources while working independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, or typing routine correspondence.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for six months of the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

This position requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition. In accordance with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208), if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, you may not hold this position.

A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.

If you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, do NOT apply for this position.


BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.


CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
