What You Will Be Doing

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented individual to serve as an Environmental Health Technician.

This position is primarily responsible for permitting and providing technical regulatory assistance for seafood and shellfish operations. Additional duties include assisting with complaint investigations, retail inspections, and enforcement actions under the supervision of an Environmental Health Officer.

The Food Safety and Sanitation Program is dedicated to protecting public health at regulated food, seafood, and public facilities. Our vision is to work collaboratively with these facilities to prevent illness, injury, and loss of life caused by unsafe sanitary practices.

The Environmental Health Technician plays a key role in supporting Alaska’s seafood and shellfish industries by administering the permitting program. Responsibilities include issuing permits and export certificates, maintaining regulatory databases, and providing technical assistance to operators and the public. This is a critical support position that is vital to the success of our mission.

We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas:

Special Notice

  • A valid Driver's License is Required
  • This position requires the incumbent to have a valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • The incumbent must also be willing and able to travel by small plane, helicopter, boat, ATV/snowmachine, or automobile to remote communities.

One year of advanced clerical experience supporting a state's food safety and sanitation program.

Or

Two years of advanced clerical experience supporting a regulatory inspection or permitting program.

Or

Two years of post-secondary education from an accredited college.
