Job Summary

The Part Time Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the athletic program, helping to develop student-athletes both on and off the field/court. This role focuses on teaching sport-specific skills, promoting academic success, fostering good sportsmanship, and contributing to a positive team culture while ensuring compliance with institutional and conference policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting practices, workouts, and competitions.
  • Teach and develop individual and team skills, strategies, and fundamentals.
  • Support the recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes.
  • Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and encourage academic success.
  • Help organize team travel, equipment, uniforms, and game-day operations.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility.
  • Assist with scouting opponents and preparing game plans.
  • Maintain compliance with college, conference, and governing body rules and regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes, staff, faculty, and the community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications


  • Degree may be required
  • Previous coaching or competitive playing experience in the sport.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate diverse student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of recruiting practices and collegiate athletic regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel as needed.
  • CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications preferred or obtainable upon hire.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the athletic schedule.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate sport-specific techniques.
  • Stand, walk, run, lift equipment (up to 50 pounds), and work outdoors or in athletic facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel with the team for competitions and recruiting.

Employment will require a criminal background check at college expense. Preference is given to Missouri residents.

Public School Retirement System Public Education Employee Retirement (PSRS) – Salaried Employees:
  • Employee contribution: 14.50% of gross pay, plus monthly employer-paid insurance costs
  • SFCC matches 100%

System (PEERS) – Hourly Employees:
  • Employee contribution: 6.86% of gross pay, plus monthly employer-paid insurance costs

Leave Benefits
There is no waiting period to begin using accrued sick or vacation time.

Vacation Accrual- Full-time Employees:
  • 4 hours per pay period: 0–5 years
  • 5 hours per pay period: 6–15 years
  • 6 hours per pay period: 16 years
  • Maximum accrual cap: 160 hours

  • Faculty are not eligible for vacation due to built-in contractual time off but have access to 2 personal days/year.

Sick Leave Accrual- Full-time Employees:
  • 5 hours per pay period for all employees
  • Maximum accrual cap: 1,040 hours

Tuition Waiver Programs
SFCC Tuition Waiver:
  • 100% tuition scholarship for full-time employees, spouses, and qualified dependents (excludes books, fees, supplies)
  • Electronic application required each semester


CMU Tuition Waiver:

  • Undergraduate tuition 100% tuition scholarship for full-time employees, spouses and dependents (excludes books, fees, supplies)
  • Spouse only: 50% waiver on graduate tuition (excludes books, fees, supplies)
  • Electronic application required each Academic year

Community Gardens:
  • 20’ x 30’ garden plots available free of charge
  • Plots are prepared and water is provided
