What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extended Day Coordinator position at State College Friends School?
The Extended Day Coordinator oversees the daily on-site operations of the school’s after-school program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students. This role involves planning, coordinating, and supervising activities, leading program staff, and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.

Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Plan, organize, and implement daily Extended Day activities that support academic, social, and recreational development.
- Partner with the Director of School Operations to plan and schedule Club leaders for each season.
- Ensure activities align with school values, curriculum goals, and community expectations.
Supervision & Safety
- Provide direct supervision of students to ensure safety and appropriate conduct at all times.
- Oversee program staff, volunteers, and guest instructors, providing guidance, and support as needed.
- Enforce safety protocols and respond promptly to emergencies or behavioral concerns.
Daily Operations
- Manage daily attendance, student records, and program supplies.
- Make recommendations for purchases to support programming.
- Track program effectiveness and provide reports or updates to the Director of School Operations as requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation Management, or related field preferred; relevant experience or a degree in progress will be considered in place of completed degree.
- Prior experience working with school-aged children in an educational or recreational setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to guide staff and foster a collaborative, positive team environment.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Work Schedule
- Typically [Monday–Friday, afternoons/evenings, 2:30pm to 6pm], aligned with the school’s . Occasional planning or training sessions may occur outside program hours.
- 9 (nine) full-coverage days are needed for in-service and teacher conference days (please see current school calendar).
