Director of Outreach

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

SCORE is seeking a Director of Outreach to lead the development and execution of the organization’s outreach and engagement efforts. This position will be responsible for building relationships with education, business, and community leaders across Tennessee to ensure that SCORE’s policy, practice, and advocacy work is meaningfully connected to local and regional efforts — all with an eye toward improving student outcomes.

Reporting to the Vice President of Advocacy and Communications, the Director of Outreach will translate the organization’s advocacy strategy into actionable outreach plans and execute initiatives that amplify SCORE’s priorities and strengthen its connections statewide.

At the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), our mission is to catalyze transformative change in Tennessee education so that all students can achieve success. SCORE is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan institution founded in 2009 by Sen. Bill Frist, M.D., former U.S. Senate Majority Leader. Striving to be a durable partner and trusted advisor on Tennessee education, SCORE is focused on advancing change for students from kindergarten to career through policy and practice — and taking it to scale.

SCORE has three goals that guide the organization’s work to drive success for all students in Tennessee:
  • All students receive an excellent public K-12 education.
  • All students earn a credential or postsecondary degree of value that prepares them for a career that enables economic independence.
  • Economically disadvantaged students, students of color, and rural students see improved success across all goals relative to their peers.

SCORE is based at 1801 West End Ave. in downtown Nashville. This role is eligible for hybrid work with the expectation of a minimum of 20 hours per week in the office across three days and the balance remote. For more information on SCORE, please visit www.tnscore.org.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute outreach initiatives that align with SCORE’s policy, advocacy and communications strategy.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with a key set of partner organizations, school leaders and school districts, postsecondary institutions, businesses, and/or other education stakeholders.
  • Represent SCORE by traveling statewide to community events to give presentations and facilitate discussions as needed. Work in the evenings and on weekends may be required, with approximately 25% travel.
  • Elevate voices from the field to create opportunities for education, business, and community leaders to connect with policymakers and other decision-makers.
  • Lead coalition-building efforts by recruiting and engaging leaders to support SCORE’s advocacy and outreach priorities.
  • Help develop distribution plans for SCORE’s research, policy, and advocacy materials, including the identification of target audiences.
  • Assist with event coordination, helping to plan, execute, and manage select stakeholder convenings.
  • Identify voices and stories from across the state to help inform SCORE’s communications and highlight student-centered impact.
  • Serve as project manager for select advocacy initiatives by monitoring and advancing progress to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Five to seven years of related experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Tennessee’s education landscape strongly preferred
  • Experience working on statewide or local issue-based or electoral campaigns preferred
