Starwood currently owns over 13,000 single-family homes valued at more than $4.5 billion and is actively investing in the sector across the capital stack and a broad range of strategies spanning ground-up development, one-by-one aggregation, and stabilized portfolio or community acquisition of both for-sale and for-rent housing.
The Associate will have the opportunity to join the dedicated Single Family Residential team responsible for acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions in the sector. This individual will assist in all aspects related to the asset management of Starwood’s rapidly growing portfolio of single family residential investments and the sourcing, underwriting, and execution of new investments.
Specific Responsibilities Include

Specific Responsibilities Include
- Underwriting and due diligence of new investment opportunities;
- Generating property and portfolio valuations and return analyses;
- Conducting portfolio assessments/financial analysis and making recommendations based on results;
- Partnering across functions including acquisitions, property management, portfolio management, joint venture partners, debt financings and accounting to drive the investment performance of Starwood’s SFR investments;
- Monitoring business plan performance and adjusting go-forward strategy based on market conditions;
- Developing internal data infrastructure and dashboard tools;
- Creating financial models;
- Working with internal and external teams to implement process improvements that create additional value;
- Providing assistance to key internal team members by answering questions and helping with requests as needed;
- Performing a number of functions regularly, including reporting on the SFR investments on an ongoing basis and handling complex debt facilities.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in real estate acquisitions, asset management, strategy/operations
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
- Development and/or real estate cash flow modeling experience
- Strong quantitative and technical/computer skills (including strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint)
- A true self-starter capable of accomplishing complicated tasks with limited supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance, business or related area and/or an MBA in real estate or finance
