Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Primary Construction underwriting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, structuring, and underwriting primary construction insurance risks across a range of project and contractor profiles. This role centers on driving profitable growth, managing complex accounts, and maintaining broker relationships in accordance with Starr’s business plans and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and price primary construction insurance risks—including general contractors, specialty contractors, and project-specific placements—within delegated authority.
• Analyze and assess risk characteristics of complex accounts to ensure alignment with Starr’s underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.
• Develop tailored insurance solutions and negotiate policy terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers and clients.
• Build and manage relationships with brokers, agents, and insureds to secure new business and retain renewal accounts.
• Collaborate with risk engineering, claims, actuarial, and other internal teams to deliver value-added services toclients.
• Monitor and manage portfolio performance, ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
• Keep up to date with market trends, emerging risks, competitor strategies, and new construction technologies.
• Mentor and support junior underwriters, sharing technical underwriting knowledge and best practices.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in business, risk management, finance, or related field; relevant industry designation (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU) is a plus.
• Minimum 5–7 years of commercial construction underwriting experience, with demonstrated authority on primary casualty or property lines.
• Deep knowledge of primary construction risks, insurance products, and underwritingbest practices.
• Experience building and maintaining successful relationships with brokers and clients.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
