What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Supervisor position at STARR Restaurants?
STARR Restaurants is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to join our team in Center City Philadelphia. The Payroll Supervisor will support the daily operations of the Payroll Department, oversee Payroll Specialists, ensure accurate and timely processing, and assist in training restaurant management teams. This role plays a key part in maintaining payroll accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all locations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee day-to-day payroll processing activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of multi-state, multi-location payrolls
- Process weekly payrolls in tandem with the Payroll Specialists
- Review and update payroll records, including exemptions, insurance coverage, deductions, job titles, and departmental transfers
- Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages for reporting purposes
- Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations; communicate updates to management as needed
- Coordinate workload for Payroll Specialists; provide guidance and follow up on assigned tasks
- Support the development and refinement of payroll processes and procedures
- Review and audit payroll for accuracy, identifying discrepancies and recommending corrections
- Train restaurant managers on the use of the payroll/HRIS system
- Submit new hire reporting to appropriate federal, state, and local agencies
- Maintain and update payroll guidelines, procedures, and documentation as needed
- Uphold confidentiality and safeguard sensitive payroll data
- Provide restaurant locations with timely and accurate payroll information relevant to their operations
REQUIRED SKILLS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Experience with multi-state and multi-location payrolls
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential preferred
- Knowledge of ADP Vantage or similar payroll/HRIS systems
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information
