Position Overview: The Programs Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and managing Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance programs in partnership with Managing General Agents (MGAs). This role focuses on assessing new and existing program opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in P&C underwriting, program business, and risk analysis, with a passion for supporting innovative and profitable insurance solutions. The Programs Underwriter will work closely with the dedicated Programs Auditor to ensure underwriting integrity and continuous improvement but will not be responsible for conducting formal audits. Key Responsibilities: 1. Program Underwriting & Evaluation Underwrite new and renewal P&C program submissions from MGA partners, with a focus on niche or non-traditional risks that demonstrate profitable results. Analyze program performance data, loss history, and actuarial reports to determine program viability and recommend appropriate terms, pricing, and coverage structures. Collaborate with MGA partners to clarify program guidelines, underwriting criteria, and appetite, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Participate in the due diligence process for onboarding new MGA partners and programs, including review of underwriting processes, controls, and historical results. Develop and maintain program-specific underwriting guidelines and documentation. Coordinate with internal resources to receive ultimate approval for new programs 2. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Partner with the Programs Auditor to review audit findings, address underwriting-related issues, and implement corrective actions as needed. Participate in post-audit reviews and collaborate on action plans to enhance underwriting practices and program performance. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to inform underwriting strategy and maintain compliance. 3. Relationship Management & Communication Serve as a primary underwriting contact for MGA partners, providing guidance, support, and education on underwriting standards and program requirements. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and MGA partners to resolve underwriting issues and share best practices. Prepare and present underwriting reports, program analyses, and recommendations to management. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field (CPCU, CIC, or other insurance designations preferred). 5 years of experience in P&C underwriting, preferably with program business or MGA relationships. Demonstrated expertise in evaluating and underwriting non-traditional or niche insurance programs. Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and develop creative solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to partner and teamrelationships. Experience with insurance management systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs.
