What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Technician-Motorcoach Fleet position at Starr Bus Charters & Tours?
About Starr
Starr Bus Charters & Tours operates a premium motorcoach fleet — Prevost, MCI, and Van Hool — out of Fairless Hills, PA. We serve charter, group tour, and long-distance markets and hold our equipment to the same standard we hold our drivers. This hire matters to us.
What You’ll Do
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, air, brake, and multiplex system failures across our fleet using OEM diagnostic software and wiring diagrams.
• Execute repairs to manufacturer specs with a high first-time fix rate. Safety-critical systems road- or bench-tested before any coach leaves the shop.
• Respond to road calls and off-hours breakdowns as the primary after-hours technical resource. Availability is a requirement of this role, not a request.
• Work directly alongside our Chief Technical Advisor in structured knowledge-transfer sessions — fleet walkthroughs, platform diagnostics, vendor introductions. You own the documentation output.
• Serve as the first escalation for shop technicians before senior leadership is engaged. Coach the repair, don’t just fix it.
• Complete all work orders accurately and close them the same day. Zero missing fields — this is audited.
• Enforce OSHA safety standards, PPE compliance, and damage reporting discipline on the floor, every shift.
What We’re Looking For
• 5 years diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel vehicles — real diagnostic depth required, not general maintenance.
• Prevost, MCI, or Van Hool motorcoach experience strongly preferred.
• Proficient with OEM diagnostic software and able to read wiring diagrams and schematics independently.
• Available for off-hours response.
• Valid driver’s license required. CDL-B with Passenger endorsement preferred or willing to obtain.
• Comfortable coaching technicians and working within a structured shop hierarchy.
What We Offer
• $36 – $42/hr based on platform depth and diagnostic experience.
• Direct mentorship from one of the most experienced motorcoach technicians in the region. That access is rare.
• Clear path to Working Shop Foreman for the right candidate — milestone-based, not calendar-based.
• Stable, long-tenured team. People who come to Starr tend to stay.
• Full-time, year-round work. Health benefits included.
