Job Overview
We are seeking an Automation & Controls Engineer to support the startup, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and ongoing operation of a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The role will support critical facility and utility systems across PLC-based controls, DeltaV, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, test, and support automation and control systems for pharmaceutical utilities and facility infrastructure.
- Support commissioning, startup, functional testing, and troubleshooting of control systems.
- Troubleshoot PLC logic, I/O, communications, alarms, interlocks, sequences, and instrumentation.
- Support DeltaV and facility automation system testing and verification.
- Troubleshoot pumps, valves, motors, HVAC, water systems, compressed air, and other facility utilities.
- Participate in field testing, equipment checkout, loop verification, and functional testing.
- Support test scripts, troubleshooting procedures, punch-list resolution, and system turnover.
- Collaborate with Automation, Engineering, Commissioning, Facilities, Validation, Quality, Operations, vendors, and system integrators.
- Support environmental controls and BMS systems, including HVAC, temperature, humidity, differential pressure, alarms, and air handling systems.
- Maintain appropriate documentation in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
- Ensure work follows GMP, safety, quality, and site procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience with industrial automation, controls, PLCs, BMS, or facility automation systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and systems.
- Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Modicon PLCs.
- Strong understanding of control systems, instrumentation, I/O, alarms, interlocks, and industrial communications.
- Experience with DeltaV or other DCS platforms is a strong plus.
- Experience with Johnson Controls BMS is highly desirable.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, qualification, or facility turnover activities.
- Ability to troubleshoot automation issues directly in the field.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
