What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teaching Artist position at Stark County Educational Service Center?
Title: Artful Living and Learning Teaching Artist (DRAMA)
Supervisor: Director of Artful Living and Learning
Summary/Objective: Teach prepared Artful Living and Learning arts integration lessons in preschool classes in and around Stark County. Prepared lessons and instructional materials are provided for each twenty minute lesson. Every lesson utilizes genres of art (music, dance, drama and/or visual arts) to teach Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards to preschoolers in a classroom setting. All positions are part time and are taught for 25 weeks, from the beginning of October through the end of April. Transportation is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, an arts area, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge and practical experience in music, dance, theater, visual arts
- Experience working with young children
- Availability weekdays during normal school hours October - April
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
- Ohio BCI and Federal Background check free of disqualifying infractions
- Ohio Substitute Teaching License required (Applicants are eligible to apply for a sub license with a bachelor’s degree or an educational aide license after ESC assessment successfully completed)
- Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training, including but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens, Crisis Intervention, Educator Ethics, etc.
- Embody high ethical standards, integrity, and accept responsibility for decisions and conduct
Essential Functions:
- Prepare and organize instructional materials for each arts integration lesson
- Teach prescribed music, dance, drama, or visual arts integration lessons to preschool classes, emphasizing Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards and vocabulary
- Provide positive and creative learning environment for preschoolers
- Safeguard all instructional materials, notify director of any damages or additional supplies that are needed
- Maintain professional relationships with teachers and staff at each school
- Communicate as needed with music, dance, drama, or visual arts) teaching artist team.
- Communicate regularly with classroom teachers and program director
- Arrive on time for each class and finish each class by the schedule end time
- Attend all Artful Living and Learning professional development meetings
