Job Title: Maintenance Technician – Mechanic
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Starchem, LLC.
Position Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment. This role works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Technicians, and Production teams to ensure equipment reliability, assist with project installations, and maintain safe mechanical systems across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventative maintenance and repair of motors, gearboxes and other rotating equipment including shaft and pulley alignment.
- Removal and installation of mechanical seals on pumps and agitator shafts of chemical reactors.
- Troubleshooting and repair of air operated diaphragm pumps.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, and piping assemblies.
- Removal and installation of elevated and overhead equipment using various types of rigging and lifting devices.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager on project planning, material needs, and scope of work.
- Safely operate cutting torches, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while adhering to all plant safety policies, including PPE requirements and chemical handling procedures.
- Participate in preventive maintenance activities and support small capital projects as assigned.
- Be self-motivated and work independently or collaborate and work with a team toward a common goal.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
- 5 years of mechanic/millwright experience in industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance environments (chemical industry experience a plus).
- Basic understanding of single phase and three phase motor circuits (460V or less).
- Ability to read, understand, and follow equipment manufacturers manuals for troubleshooting and repair.
- Understanding and comprehension of mechanical drawings and exploded view diagrams.
- Familiarity with safety standards in industrial or chemical environments (OSHA, hot-work permits, LOTO, etc.).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying plant conditions (heat, confined spaces, elevated platforms).
