Editorial Coordinator

StarChefs
Brooklyn, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 7/9/2025 CLOSED ON 7/24/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editorial Coordinator position at StarChefs?

StarChefs is looking for a hard-working, cross-disciplined Editorial Coordinator to join our small, but mighty team in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. If you love restaurants, want ground-level business/publishing experience, and can organize a spreadsheet with your eyes closed, this may be the job for you.

Founded in 1995, StarChefs is dedicated to supporting restaurant professionals and showcasing the country’s best food and beverage talent through print and digital publishing as well as its signature National Rising Stars Awards Program, which covers five cities or regions per year.

This position is the operational backbone of the editorial department and the successful candidate will be able to work across all departments to organize and build publishing calendars, schedule editorial tasting trips, manage external communications with hospitality professionals and freelance writers, and oversee the general production of the print Rising Stars Magazine (with some opportunity to flex your writing skills as well). Our audience is industry, not consumer, so get ready to turbo-charge your food and drink expertise and writing style. Superior organizational skills, a love of all things spreadsheets and scheduling, critical thinking, writing skills, multitasking prowess, and an unbridled passion for publishing and the food and beverage industry are a must.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all external communications for the editorial department including but not limited to: scheduling of editorial tastings, timely and detailed follow-ups for recipe requests and photo delivery, and management and correspondence with freelance writers
  • Manage general publishing operations across departments including setting timelines, leading internal editorial meetings, and overseeing the copyediting and upload process of the print magazine
  • Manage all recipe publishing including initial requests, follow-ups, permissions, and editing
  • Track assets for the Rising Stars Magazine including fact-checking, biographies, recipes, and features
  • Organize and manage internal documents related to the editorial department and publishing process
  • Contribute to editorial research and data collection for StarChefs' five core Rising Stars cities each year
  • General editorial support of staff writers including but not limited to: feature ideation, feature title brainstorming, and peer editing of biographies and features
  • Opportunity to contribute professional biographies and at least one article in each print magazine

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or another writing-intensive major
  • A deep passion for and understanding of hospitality, restaurants, chefs, cooking, and eating
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to enter data efficiently, timely, and correctly in order to meet deadlines and promote efficiency
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Proficiency in G-Suite applications (Sheets and Docs, in particular)
  • Proven ability and interest in writing and editing (and excellent note taking skills)
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player in an open office and at events
  • Opportunity to travel one to two weeks per year for community-building and magazine release events
