Accounts Receivable Payment Specialist FT

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a full time Accounts Receivable Payment Specialist to join its outstanding Finance division. This role is responsible for accurately posting payments, reconciling accounts, and supporting the financial operations of StarCare, ensuring that payments from insurance providers, government programs, and clients are properly recorded and applied, contributing to the Center’s financial stability, compliance, and continuity of services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Post payments from Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and client accounts into the billing system with accuracy and timeliness.
• Apply contractual adjustments, write-offs, and refunds in accordance with payer agreements, internal policies, and management directives.
• Reconcile daily deposits with electronic remittance advices (ERAs) and bank statements to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, including misapplied payments, missing remittances, and payer errors.
• Maintain organized and accurate records of payment activity for audit readiness and financial reporting.
• Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, and administrative staff to ensure proper documentation supports billing and payment processes.
• Monitor aging reports and assist in identifying accounts requiring follow-up or escalation.
• Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding payment status, billing corrections, and account reconciliation within 24 hours.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer guidelines, and internal financial policies in all billing activities.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance billing accuracy and efficiency.
• Assist with month-end closing activities and reporting as needed.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal departments and external payers to support effective communication and resolution of billing issues.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours.
• Ensure all required training and credentials are current and compliant with Center, federal, state, and local regulations, and in addition to StarCare policies and procedures.
• Complete special departmental projects and other responsibilities with similar skill and work conditions as assigned.
• Support all activities in alignment with StarCare’s mission, values, and operational goals.

Schedule: This is a full-time/non-exempt position scheduled Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts receivable, medical billing, or a related financial role.
• Education and experience may be substituted for one another, as appropriate.

Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with Medicaid and Medicare billing practices is preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding and electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

• Must pass all pre-employment and annual screenings, including drug screen, criminal background, nursing registry, and MVR.
• Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
