Position SummaryStar Outdoor is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head Irrigator to lead our irrigation division and oversee water management operations across a portfolio of commercial, retail, multifamily, HOA, and mixed-use properties throughout North Texas.
The Head Irrigator is responsible for ensuring all irrigation systems operate efficiently, reducing water waste, protecting landscape investments, and delivering exceptional service to our clients. This position combines technical expertise, leadership, client communication, and field management.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in solving problems before they become visible and who understands that proper irrigation management is one of the most important components of commercial landscape success.
Key ResponsibilitiesIrrigation Operations- Manage all commercial irrigation systems within assigned portfolio
- Diagnose and repair irrigation system failures
- Troubleshoot controllers, valves, wiring, pumps, and sensors
- Perform seasonal irrigation audits and system inspections
- Monitor water usage and identify opportunities for conservation
- Ensure compliance with local watering restrictions and regulations
- Manage startup, winterization, and seasonal adjustments
- Utilize Smart Controller technology and weather-based irrigation systems
- Program and manage SmartLink® and Weathermatic® controllers
- Reduce water waste while maintaining healthy landscapes
- Analyze water reports and recommend system improvements
- Identify leaks and inefficiencies before they become costly issues
- Lead and train irrigation technicians
- Coordinate daily schedules and workloads
- Ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
- Maintain quality control standards
- Assist with hiring and onboarding irrigation staff
- Conduct routine property inspections
- Provide recommendations for system improvements
- Document repairs and completed work
- Communicate proactively with Account Managers and clients
- Support Star Outdoor's commitment to exceptional customer service
- Minimum 5 years commercial irrigation experience
- Valid Texas Irrigation Technician License
- Strong understanding of commercial irrigation systems
- Experience with SmartLink, Weathermatic, Rain Bird, Hunter, and similar platforms
- Ability to read irrigation plans and wiring diagrams
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Clean driving record
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Texas Licensed Irrigator
- Experience managing irrigation crews
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Commercial property experience
- Experience with large-scale irrigation systems
