Peer Recovery Coach

Burlington United Methodist Family Services (BUMFS) is seeking a compassionate, encouraging, and motivated Peer Recovery Coach to join our Behavioral Health team. If you believe in the power of recovery and want to help individuals overcome substance use challenges through connection, support, and lived experience, we'd love to meet you.

As a Peer Recovery Coach, you'll walk alongside individuals as they build healthy, meaningful lives in recovery. You'll provide encouragement, advocacy, mentorship, and practical support while helping clients develop recovery goals, navigate community resources, and overcome barriers to long-term success.

Working alongside counselors, clinical staff, and community partners, you'll help individuals discover hope, build resilience, and maintain lasting recovery.

What You'll Do

As a member of our Behavioral Health team, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one peer recovery coaching and ongoing encouragement to individuals in recovery.
  • Help clients develop personalized Recovery Wellness Plans that reflect their individual goals and strengths.
  • Conduct outreach to engage individuals who may be difficult to reach or disconnected from services.
  • Assist clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to recovery, employment, housing, healthcare, transportation, and community support.
  • Connect clients with recovery meetings, peer support groups, sober living resources, and other community services.
  • Accompany and support clients during appointments, recovery activities, and other services as appropriate.
  • Transport clients safely in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.
  • Reinforce treatment goals and collaborate with counselors and clinical staff to support positive outcomes.
  • Provide education about the recovery process, relapse prevention, and healthy lifestyle changes.
  • Facilitate recovery-focused conversations through individual meetings, group activities, and telephone contacts.
  • Support families by encouraging recovery-oriented routines and healthy relationships.
  • Respond appropriately during crisis situations while maintaining client safety.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation while protecting client confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, recovery volunteers, and community partners to ensure coordinated care.
  • Support Burlington UMFS's mission by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, compassion, and respect in every interaction.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
  • Ability to obtain West Virginia Recovery Coach Certification within three months of hire and maintain certification in good standing.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is helpful but not required:

  • Peer recovery support
  • Behavioral health
  • Substance use treatment
  • Mental health services
  • Community outreach
  • Human services
  • Case management
  • Recovery support groups

Individuals with lived recovery experience who meet certification requirements are encouraged to apply.
