Warehouse Supervisor
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Schedule: Monday through Friday, with Sunday overtime as operationally required. Saturday is not a working day.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Warehouse Supervisor to oversee daily warehouse operations and lead warehouse employees. This position is responsible for ensuring that receiving, storage, inventory handling, picking, staging, loading, and general warehouse activities are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
The ideal candidate is a dependable leader who can follow management direction, organize the workforce, enforce company procedures, and hold employees accountable for attendance, productivity, safety, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise warehouse employees and coordinate daily work assignments based on operational priorities.
- Conduct daily startup meetings and clearly communicate assignments, safety expectations, and production goals.
- Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, performance, conduct, and compliance with company policies.
- Ensure inbound containers and trucks are received, unloaded, inspected, labeled, and stored correctly.
- Coordinate picking, staging, verification, and loading of outbound shipments.
- Confirm that the correct materials and quantities are prepared for each project and shipment.
- Maintain organized storage, staging, inspection, repair, and loading areas.
- Work closely with the logistics, inventory, quality control, and management teams.
- Verify that required warehouse records, checklists, photographs, packing lists, and shipping documents are completed accurately.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, missing materials, damages, and incorrect shipments and report findings to management.
- Enforce safe forklift operation, proper material handling, PPE requirements, and warehouse safety rules.
- Conduct routine inspections of forklifts, tools, loading docks, work areas, and safety equipment.
- Train new employees on warehouse procedures, equipment operation, safety requirements, and job expectations.
- Provide coaching and corrective guidance when employees fail to meet performance or conduct standards.
- Monitor productivity and adjust labor assignments to meet receiving and shipping deadlines.
- Assist directly with warehouse work when additional support is needed.
- Report operational issues, employee concerns, equipment problems, damages, and safety incidents promptly to management.
- Support the company’s ISO 9001 quality management procedures and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other warehouse and supervisory duties assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics experience.
- At least one year of experience leading or supervising warehouse employees.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to hold employees accountable professionally and consistently.
- Experience with receiving, inventory control, picking, staging, loading, and shipping operations.
- Ability to read packing lists, bills of lading, inventory records, shipping documents, and work instructions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize assignments and manage multiple operational deadlines.
- Comfortable using computers, tablets, email, spreadsheets, and warehouse or inventory systems.
- Ability to work independently while following instructions and priorities established by management.
- Willingness to work Sunday overtime when required.
- Reliable attendance and transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift operating experience and current forklift certification.
- Experience supervising operations involving oversized, heavy, or high-value materials.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 or other quality-controlled environment.
- Experience with warehouse management systems, ERP systems, or digital inventory tracking.
- OSHA or other workplace safety training.
- Experience conducting employee training, performance documentation, or incident investigations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, climb, and work throughout a large warehouse.
- Ability to work around forklifts, trucks, loading docks, machinery, dust, and changing warehouse temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety shoes, a safety vest, eye protection, and a hard hat when required.
