What are the responsibilities and job description for the Casual Resident Specialist (On-Call/As Needed) position at STAR Community Justice Center?
Job Duties – Resident Specialist
Daily Duties:
▪ Oversee the safety and security of the facility, residents, and staff.
▪ Maintain an accurate and up-to-date resident count; ensure all residents are accounted for.
▪ Ensure the Daily Resident Schedule is followed.
▪ Facilitate groups and contact warranted staff to print worksheets as needed.
▪ Distribute STAR Incentive rewards.
▪ Investigate incidents and report them to the Resident Coordinator, when necessary
▪ Process incoming and outgoing resident mail.
▪ Distribute medication to residents and monitor for misuse (OTC and prescription)
▪ Maintain cleanliness of the facility and workspace.
▪ Complete consistent security rounds at minimum of 30-minute intervals.
▪ Document warranted information during pre/post-shift debriefings.
▪ Review previous shift's debriefing information and house Duty Logs
▪ Monitor residents and resident’s movements within and outside the house.
▪ Supervise residents during cafeteria times when needed.
▪ Conduct locker and journal inspections
▪ Facilitate the PM meeting.
▪ Update the house Duty Log with detailed, relevant, and necessary information in a timely manner.
▪ Assist with room moves according to proper procedures, ACA, and PREA standards.
▪ Review and complete the House Inventory promptly and communicate any missing items.
▪ Review and respond to emails during each shift to ensure proper communication.
▪ Report resident behaviors and concerns to the necessary departments promptly.
▪ Provide positive reinforcement (STARS) and negative reinforcement (Concern Slips) appropriately
when warranted.
▪ Assist with filling chemicals for house cleaning when needed.
▪ Provide additional supervision and assistance during Interventions, Intercessions, or at times of
escalated events.
▪ Consistently arrive on time for scheduled shifts and promptly report to assigned post.
▪ Oversee the conductance and documentation of Structured Activities according to the Daily Resident
Schedule.
▪ Ensure educational/therapeutic paperwork and materials are stocked on house as needed.
Weekly Duties:
▪ Assist with the discharge of residents.
▪ Collect applicable paperwork and submit it to the proper department as needed.
▪ Collect, conduct, and document clothed searches, unclothed searches, drug screens, and body scans
when warranted.
▪ Prepare residents for their completion date by ensuring all property is accounted for and packed for
release with proper exit paperwork.
▪ Keep a firm, fair, and consistent number of STARs and Concern Slips.
▪ Facilitate, oversee, and supervise in-person visitation.
Monthly Duties:
▪ Complete assigned zone searches.
Quarterly Duties:
▪ Complete assigned trainings (In-Person, Meetings, RELIAS)
Yearly Duties:
▪ Complete assigned annual trainings (In-Person, Meetings, RELIAS)
Extraneous Duties:
▪ Assist in the collection of evidence and information for Incident Reports
▪ Write and collect statements as needed.
▪ Assist and facilitate resident transports as needed.
▪ Remain updated and aware of changes and revisions to policies and procedures.
▪ With sufficient notice: All staff, including Floaters, remain flexible with schedule changes.
▪ Resident Specialists acting as Floaters understand that schedules may be adjusted to provide
coverage in the event of call-offs.
