Program Specialist Job Description
Position Summary:
The Program Specialist works with residents to ensure all programming needs are met, while reporting directly to the Program Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Know and adhere to STAR’s policies and procedures
Coordinate/communicate with all other departments as needed
Ensure the department continuous compliance with all ACA, PREA, and departmental CBCF and BCS standards
Provide reinforcers and corrective actions to STAR residents as needed to meet 4:1 ratio
Conduct classes on a weekly basis
Conduct individual sessions to address barriers identified within the program
Appropriately document information within 24 hours
Complete detailed and individualized case notes
Attend House Meetings for respective house assignment to relay pertinent information regarding resident progress and concerns
Suggest ways to make programming better for the resident
Complete any other jobs assigned to by management
Adhere to all duties listed on the Program Specialist job duties form
PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS:
Staff holding this position will be evaluated on the following intervals of employment: 90th day, 6 month, 1 year, and annually thereafter

Position Skills: Knowledge of STAR’s Treatment Model, Teaching Effectiveness, Use of Redirection Techniques and Behavioral Reinforcements, Effective Intervention Strategies, Probation Communication, Community Relations
Qualifications and Skills:
- At minimum, must obtain an Associate’s degree in human service or criminal justice field; however, bachelor’s degree or better is preferred
- A strong background with two years in the field of corrections is preferred
Valid driver’s license
