Primary Purpose of the Role
The Lead Payroll Practitioner is primarily responsible for processing biweekly hourly and salary payrolls while maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations, maintaining data integrity, and validating integrations between PowerMagic, HR, and Payroll systems.
Works in close partnership with the Finance and Human Resource Department to ensure coordination of activities, appropriate controls, well-documented and streamlined processes, and a high level of customer service. The Lead Payroll Practitioner will report directly to the Payroll Manager
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration:
- Primarily responsible for processing weekly and biweekly hourly and salary payrolls while executing appropriate transactions, payroll rules, processes and procedures to ensure accurate and timely payroll results, including troubleshooting and documentation of audit data.
- Subject Matter Expert in payroll software requiring the understanding of the complete process including dependencies, downstream impacts, controls, and reporting.
- Execute pre- and post-payroll processing audit reports and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency of the payroll.
- Calculate and produce off-cycle checks for final pays or additional wages, as needed.
- Enter payroll-related employee record updates within the ADP Vantage system, such as starts and stops to garnishment orders, general deductions or direct deposit changes.
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding earnings, deductions, PTO balances, and garnishment orders in a timely manner.
- Research and correct PTO/PSL discrepancies, including negative PTO balances and terminated employees carrying PTO hours.
- Use the payroll reporting system to create and run ad-hoc reports for internal use, as well as, to assist with or respond to the needs of the organization.
- Conduct Quarterly census reporting to Tax Manager.
General Ledger:
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries monthly.
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy.
- Partner with Accounting and Finance in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
- Research and respond to payroll general ledger inquiries from field management and Finance
Payroll Team Support and Development:
- Serve as primary backup to Payroll Manager.
- Provide support and demonstrate best practices to Payroll Assistant and Senior Payroll Practitioner.
- Provide recommendations for continual enhancements to the payroll system and/or processes.
- Maintain and handle all information in a confidential manner.
- Maintain processional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies, establishing personal peer networks, and attending educational seminars and workshops.
- Other projects and/or tasks as assigned.
