BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of a Director of Special Programs, facilitate communication between deaf and/or hard of hearing students and hearing peers, classroom teacher, and other school personnel in classroom and for other school related and/or extra-curricular activities; assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students.
Requirements / Qualifications
SCOE Classified Application EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by coursework in American Sign Language or demonstrated competency in interpreting skills and two years of paid interpreting experience working in a variety of situations, including participation activities such as interpreting at conferences, and for one-on-one and classroom environments. LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: An educational interpreter shall be certified by the national RID, or equivalent; in lieu of RID certification or equivalent, an educational interpreter must have achieved a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, the ESSE-I/R, or the NAD/ACCI assessment pursuant to Title 5, Section 3051.16(b) (3) of the California Code of Regulation.
