The "Ambient Intelligence for Older Adult Care" project is a multi-year study at Stanford University focused on advancing the care and quality of life for older adults through the deployment of sensors and the application of advanced analytical techniques. The protocol involves sensor-based environmental monitoring, health data acquisition, and the development of methods to detect and analyze behavioral, cognitive, and physical patterns among older adults residing in an independent living facility.

We are seeking a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist to support our university-led research study. We will collect standardized assessments to better understand baseline mobility, balance, fall risks, and cognitive function of our participants. The PT/OT will play a role in ensuring the safe and accurate administration of physical assessments, primarily by training and supporting research staff and safeguarding participant wellbeing during assessment sessions.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Train research staff on proper administration of physical assessments (e.g., Timed Up and Go [TUG])
  • Offer ongoing support and refresher training to ensure consistency and protocol adherence
  • Monitor participants during assessments to minimize fall risk and ensure physical safety
  • Provide hands-on physical support (e.g., guarding, assisting with mobility) as needed
  • Assess participant readiness and modify or pause testing if safety concerns arise
  • Assist research staff during assessment sessions to ensure proper execution of protocols
  • Independently administer physical and/or cognitive assessments when needed
  • Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to study procedures
  • Operate and assist with video and audio recording equipment during assessments
  • Collaborate with research staff to ensure high-quality data collection
  • Required to complete Stanford CITI Certification and HIPAA trainings

Desired Qualifications:

  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT) in good standing
  • Experience working with older adults, particularly in balance, mobility, and fall prevention
  • Familiarity with standardized assessments such as TUG (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to train non-clinical staff
  • Comfortable providing hands-on physical assistance and ensuring participant safety
  • Experience or willingness to work with audio/video equipment in a research setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in clinical research or academic settings
  • Knowledge of geriatric assessment and functional mobility measures
