Rotating - 10 Hour (United States of America)Help Shape the Future of CRNA Practice at Stanford
Stanford Health Care is seeking an experienced CRNA leader to join our growing Department of Anesthesiology and help guide one of the premier anesthesia teams in the country.
As surgical volumes continue to increase and new operating rooms come online, we are expanding our CRNA team from approximately 60 providers today to 75 providers by April 2027. To support that growth, we are investing in our leadership structure and hiring additional Lead CRNAs who are passionate about clinical excellence, team development, and building a strong culture.
This is a unique opportunity for a CRNA who enjoys both patient care and leadership and wants to help shape the future of a rapidly growing anesthesia program within a world-renowned academic medical center.
A Leadership Role with Meaningful Clinical Practice
At Stanford, Lead CRNAs remain connected to clinical care while serving as key operational and people leaders for the department.
This is a 1.0 FTE position, with:
• Approximately 50–60% clinical practice
• Approximately 40–50% administrative leadership responsibilities
This balanced structure allows Lead CRNAs to maintain their clinical expertise while directly influencing the growth, culture, and success of the department.

As a Lead CRNA, you will play a critical role in supporting both frontline providers and departmental leadership. You will work closely with the Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) for CRNAs and partner with fellow Lead CRNAs to ensure operational excellence and a positive provider experience.

What You'll Help Lead
Lead CRNAs serve as the operational bridge between departmental leadership and frontline clinicians. Responsibilities include:
• Direct supervision of assigned CRNA team members
• Annual performance evaluations and coaching
• Scheduling creation, maintenance, and optimization
• Payroll oversight and timekeeping management
• Recruitment and hiring in partnership with the Director of CRNAs
• Personnel management and provider support
• Professional development and mentorship
• Collaboration with perioperative partners to address operational challenges and improve workflows
• Supporting quality, safety, and departmental initiatives
Success in this role requires a leader who can balance accountability with support, operational excellence with empathy, and departmental goals with the needs of individual team members.

A Brief Overview
The Lead Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides supervision and management of CRNAs in a distinct clinical service line. The Lead CRNA provides clinical direction and education, works closely with operational and physician leaders, and has oversight of hiring, termination, and professional growth and development of their CRNAs. The Lead CRNA also functions under the general Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Job Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC).

What you will do
The essential functions of a Lead CRNA fall in 2 categories: Clinical Oversight and Leadership and Administration
Clinical Oversight and Leadership
o Co-directs the clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives with the service line Medical Director and operational leadership team.
o Ensures clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review of CRNAs with physicians.
o Investigates and responds to patient/family complaints from patients and families about care.
o Orients new staff CRNAs.
o Provides education to staff CRNAs.
o Participates as a representative the in hospital-wide committees.
o Serves as a representative on the professional and evaluation committees.
o Ensures all operational mandates and initiatives are completed (e.g., C-I-CARE rounds).Administration
o Reviews and participates in financial planning and issues for the service.
o Participates in the hiring, evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and discipline of staff CRNAs.
o Investigates and resolves operational issues.
o Coordinates quality improvement/process improvement programs.
o Provides 24-hour administrator on-call coverage for the service line.
o Coordinates the scheduling of the CRNAs.
o Internal and External Legal/Regulatory Issues
o Ensures compliance and participate in Medical Staff Services initiatives, policies and procedures.
o Be informed of and advocates for practice models that allow clinicians to practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice.
o Participates in regional and national discussions that affect CRNA practice.
o Works with hospital operations in regards to funding/billing/reimbursement models.
o Participates in the legislative and health policy issues affecting advanced practice.
Education Qualifications
Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited university
Experience Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience as a licensed CR
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and demonstrated clinical competence and in depth knowledge in specialty.
Knowledge of the organization and operation of trauma services necessary to ensure the delivery of quality, cost-effective and efficient patient care.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
Ability to promote a spirit of inquiry and practice based on evidence by using research based knowledge or research utilization methods to identify and implement innovations in patient care and/or participating in research, clinical investigatory or quality projects.
Ability to use educational strategies to influence the development of staff and the provision of quality care for patients and families. Communicate effectively in many venues from individual 1-on-1 sessions to a large audience.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Conduct efficient and supportive process improvement activities.
Contribute positively, proactively, and adeptly in institution-wide and Center of Advanced Practice initiatives.
Translate and implement national initiatives at SHC.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $174.85 - $189.76 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
