The organization operates a 24-hour crisis line, staffed by trained professionals and volunteers, and offers around-the-clock responses to reports of sexual assault and child sexual abuse. In addition to direct advocacy, STAR provides survivors with ongoing support, including safety planning, court accompaniment, and resource referrals. STAR also conducts community-based education and prevention programs addressing personal safety, bystander intervention, mandated reporting, and other topics related to power-based violence.
Role Description
The On Call Victim Advocate role at STAR is a full-time hybrid position based in Anchorage. Responsibilities include delivering direct advocacy and support services to victims of sexual assault and abuse, such as responding to crisis hotline calls and collaborating with law enforcement and service agencies. The advocate will engage in crisis intervention and safety planning and provide ongoing case management, court accompaniment, and resource referrals. A key aspect of the role is ensuring victims receive compassionate, trauma-informed care while navigating the systems and services they need.
Qualifications
- Skills in Victim Services and Victim Advocacy, with a deep understanding of trauma-informed care
- Experience in Social Work, Case Management, and supporting individuals through complex situations
- Knowledge or education in Criminal Justice or related fields
- Exceptional interpersonal communication and active listening skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred
- Prior experience in advocacy, victim services, or crisis intervention is advantageous
$2.00/hr while on call; $14/hr while training; $25/hr during call-out; $37.50 call-out overtime Non-exempt
