What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Mechanic position at Standard Utility Construction?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced mechanical repairs on gas and diesel-powered vehicles, including engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and brake systems.
- Complete technical repairs independently with minimal supervision.
- Follow manufacturer repair guidelines and all applicable safety protocols.
- Accurately document repairs using the company’s work order system, including labor hours and parts usage.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Provide support to fellow mechanics as needed.
- Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently, correctly, and in a timely manner.
- Operate company vehicles in compliance with safety practices and company policies.
- Respond professionally to shifting Fleet and Operations priorities.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency repairs as needed.
- Deliver excellent customer service to internal departments and represent the company professionally to external vendors.
- Adhere to company, OSHA, and departmental safety standards and protocols.
- Promptly identify and report any safety hazards or concerns.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Texas Driver License with a clean driving record.
- Must own a comprehensive set of personal mechanic tools.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in written and verbal communication.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Capable of meeting deadlines and documenting procedures accurately.
- Willingness to travel occasionally if required.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Must sign a Non-Disclosure/Non-Compete Agreement due to the nature of work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diesel engines and systems.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a shop environment and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Capable of standing for extended periods on a variety of surfaces.
- Must be physically able to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, and move freely.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds unassisted.
- Flexibility to work extended or unpredictable hours as needed.
