Standard Nuclear, Inc.
Oak Ridge, TN Full Time
POSTED ON 3/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/6/2026

Location: Oak Ridge, TN

Schedule: Full-Time

Standard Nuclear is fueling America's nuclear renaissance at industrial scale. Our mission is to deliver the essential building blocks of nuclear power—enabling cost-effective, safe, and secure energy for the world.

The CAD Designer will support Standard Nuclear's engineering, operations, and safety efforts by developing and maintaining accurate process and mechanical documentation, with a primary focus on piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). This role also includes limited support for process flow diagrams (PFDs) and other mechanical drawings as needed.

The CAD Designer will work closely with engineers, operators, and safety personnel to translate equipment setups, process concepts, and system changes into clear, controlled drawings used for operations, reviews, and safety analyses. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented drafter with experience in industrial or process-driven environments who understands the importance of accurate documentation in safe and reliable operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

P&ID & Process Documentation

  • Create, revise, and maintain piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for process systems and equipment configurations.
  • Ensure P&IDs accurately reflect piping, valves, instrumentation, interlocks, and system boundaries.
  • Develop P&IDs for new equipment setups and update existing drawings to reflect process or configuration changes.
  • Incorporate redlines, as-built conditions, and feedback from engineering and operations teams.

PFD & Mechanical Drafting Support

  • Provide drafting support for process flow diagrams (PFDs) as required.
  • Produce and update related mechanical drawings such as equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, and system schematics.
  • Support engineering teams by translating conceptual designs into clear, usable drawings.

Safety & Review Support

  • Support safety analyses and reviews by ensuring drawings clearly represent system configurations, controls, and safeguards.
  • Participate in drawing reviews related to operability, safety, and system readiness.
  • Assist engineers by identifying inconsistencies, missing information, or documentation gaps.

Equipment & System Context

  • Develop drawings for systems involving furnaces, thermal processing equipment, gas delivery systems, liquid handling systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with engineers and operators to understand equipment layouts and process intent.
  • Participate in walkdowns or equipment reviews as needed to verify field conditions.

Document Control & Standards

  • Maintain drawing files, revision history, and change documentation in accordance with internal standards.
  • Ensure consistent use of symbols, nomenclature, and drafting conventions.
  • Support audits, reviews, and engineering change processes by providing accurate and current drawings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, design technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 years of experience producing mechanical drawings in an industrial, manufacturing, or process environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting software; experience with Plant 3D is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of P&ID symbology, piping components, valves, and basic instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting safety reviews, operability reviews, or regulated environments is a plus.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple drawing updates simultaneously.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with engineers, operators, and safety personnel.
