What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Service Technician position at Standard Co.?
No Sales Quotas. No Commission. No 2 A.M. Calls. Just be a great technician.
What if your job as an HVAC service technician was actually to fix HVAC systems? At Standard Heating, Cooling & Insulating, our service technicians aren't salespeople. No sales quotas. No commission. No pressure to upsell a homeowner.
We pay our technicians a strong hourly wage to diagnose problems, fix equipment and take care of customers. That's the job.
We're adding an experienced HVAC Service Technician to our team as we prepare for the retirement of one of our longtime technicians at the end of the year. That means we're not scrambling to fill an empty truck. We're looking now so the right person has time to join the team, learn how Standard operates and make a smooth transition.
Service without the sales pressure.
We believe homeowners should be able to trust that when a technician recommends a repair, it's because the equipment needs it — not because there's a commission attached to it. That's why Standard service technicians do not earn commissions for selling equipment or unnecessary repairs. If a system should be replaced, you can recommend that the customer speak with one of our consultants. Then you go back to being a technician.
And when the day is over, it's over. We aren't a 24-hour emergency repair company. Nothing beyond 8:00 p.m. We believe experienced technicians can have a career in HVAC without sacrificing every evening, holiday and night with their families.
What you'll do:
- Diagnose residential HVAC problems
- Repair heating and cooling equipment
- Service heat pumps, furnaces, air conditioning and ductless systems
- Communicate clearly with homeowners
- Explain repair options without high-pressure sales tactics
- Document service work accurately
- Work with our installation and sales teams when replacement is appropriate
- Represent Standard professionally in customers' homes
Who we're looking for:
We're looking for an experienced technician who:
- Knows how to diagnose rather than just replace parts
- Enjoys solving problems
- Takes pride in fixing equipment correctly
- Communicates well with homeowners
- Can work independently
- Is dependable
- Wants to keep learning
- Values being trusted as a technician rather than measured as a salesperson
EPA certification and relevant HVAC credentials are preferred.
If you've ever thought...
“I became a technician because I like fixing things — not because I wanted to become a salesperson.” You should probably talk to us. Bring your technical ability. Bring your experience. Bring your desire to take care of customers. Leave the sales quota behind.
