Founded in 2006, Stand for Children (“Stand”) is an educationadvocacy group and racial justice non-profit organization. Stand’seight state affiliates (AZ, CO, IL, IN, LA, OR, TN, and WA),National Programs (Center for High School Success, Center for EarlyLiteracy Success, Teach Kindness, and Home Visit Partnership), andstrategically aligned national campaigns help children at thebottom of the economic ladder rise up through effective dropoutprevention strategies, expanded career technical education, andimproved college preparation and post-secondary guidance,increasing access to quality early childhood education, improvingliteracy instruction and interventions, increasing funding equityand adequacy, improving school quality in communities with aconcentration of chronically low performing schools, andinitiatives to improve the criminal justice system.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Officer (“EO”), Jonah Edelman, theChief Operating Officer (“COO”) will be a key member of hisleadership team. Working in partnership with the EO, otherexecutive team members, and the board of directors, the COO willhave the pivotal, hands-on leadership, management, and executionrole at the intersection of national, state, and local efforts toincrease education equity and racial justice. They will beresponsible for assuring a high level of effectiveness andefficiency of a high-performing, complex organization’s day-to-dayoperations, whose talented teams achieve sizeable impact annuallyfor children and families across the country.
Candidates with diverse professional experiences will beconsidered, although ideal candidates will have demonstratedexperience and success in the following areas:
Senior Finance and OperationalExperience: 15 years ofexecutive-level leadership providing financial and administrativeleadership in a high performing organization. Demonstrated successengaging hands-on to resolve day-to-day business challenges.
Excellence in Organizational & ChangeLeadership: demonstrated ability to efficientlyoperationalize processes and lead organizational change, with akeen sense for achieving sustainable change at scale, especially ina fast-paced and changing environment.
Team Management: a trackrecord of developing and managing diverse, high performing,geographically distributed teams.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, andInclusion: commitment to, track recordof, and measurable impact in the area of diversity, equity, andinclusion.
AnalyticalAcumen: evidenced analyticalskills and technical capability, including expertise withenterprise-wide systems.
