Role Description
The Payroll Accountant ensures accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across multiple states while maintaining the integrity of financial data in alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements. This role bridges HR, accounting, and operations—serving as the guardian of pay accuracy, tax compliance, and payroll reporting consistency. Success requires a high degree of ownership, analytical precision, and proactive problem-solving.
Hours:
- The hours are 7:00am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday – one hour lunch break.
- Flexibility to address urgent financial matters as needed.
- This position is located in Tulsa, OK.
- Pay is 60,000-70,000/YR (DOE)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Processing
- Administer and process multi-state payrolls accurately and on schedule.
- Audit time records, wage calculations, deductions, and benefit contributions for accuracy and compliance.
- Verify garnishments, bonuses, and commissions are processed per legal and company requirements.
- Review payroll registers and reconcile to general ledger and tax filings.
Accounting & Reconciliation
- Prepare journal entries for payroll, benefits, and taxes.
- Reconcile payroll accounts to general ledger each pay period and at month-end.
- Support quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, W-2s, and other compliance reports.
- Partner with Accounting and HR to ensure data accuracy between systems.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain current knowledge of wage, hour, and tax regulations in all states of operation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for audits and reporting.
- Safeguard employee and company data confidentiality at all times.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements that streamline payroll operations, reduce manual touchpoints, and strengthen controls.
- Participate in technology implementations or updates impacting payroll or accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Relevant certifications in payroll or financial management are a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of multi-state payroll and accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of FLSA, tax withholding, and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in payroll and accounting systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, QuickBooks).
- Advanced Excel and reconciliation skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
