What are the responsibilities and job description for the Real Estate Audit Director position at Stan Hamlet Associates Inc?
Our client,a top 50 CPA firm based in NYC ,with offices throughout the Eastern Seaboard of the United States,has asked us to locate a Real Estate Audit Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage multiple large, complex audit engagements within the real estate group, including real estate investment trusts (REITs), private equity real estate funds, developers, owners, and property managers.
- Serve as the client contact, delivering excellent service and acting as a trusted advisor on technical and business issues.
- Oversee all phases of the audit process — planning, execution, reporting — ensuring engagements are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with the firm's policies and professional standards.
- Robust understanding of real estate valuation methodologies and practical application of audit procedures to discounted cash flows, direct capitalization, and sales comparable approaches, as well as credit funds.
- Strong understanding of real estate properties across various legal structures.
- Independently identify and research accounting issues, including reaching sound technical conclusions and recommendations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engagement teams, fostering professional development and technical expertise.
- Review and approve workpapers, financial statements, and deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulatory and accounting standards (GAAP, GAAS, where applicable).
- Real Estate
Stay up to date on emerging accounting, audit, and industry developments, and proactively advise clients on relevant impacts.
- Contribute to internal initiatives focused on improving audit quality, operational efficiency, and client service innovation.
- Embrace new technologies and technological advancements within the assurance profession.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to the team.
- Proactively manage profitability on engagements, and closely monitor and manage billings and collections.
- Promote the firm by attracting and retaining talent, participating and leading learning and development initiatives, authoring articles, and taking an active role in supporting the real estate group.
- Train and mentor staff.
- Direct special projects as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting.
- CPA required.
Experience:
- 10 years of progressive audit experience in public accounting, with a strong focus on real estate clients.
- Prior experience managing complex engagements and leading audit teams.
- Excellent project management, communication, and client service skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Business development experience and a demonstrated ability to cultivate strong client relationships.
