What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Mobility Pick Up / Mechanic, StairLift4Vets (Helps Vets Non-Profit) position at StairLift For Vets (Non-Profit)?
About Us
Stairlift for Vets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing stairlifts and mobility aids to veterans and individuals in need. We work closely with Star Lift LLC, a stairlift installation and reconditioning company, to install, repair, and maintain stairlifts — helping people stay safely and independently in their own homes.
Position: Stairlift Installation Mechanic (Local Applicants Only)
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on mechanic to join our team installing and servicing stairlifts. This role is centered on hands-on stairlift installation in customers' homes — mounting rail systems, wiring and calibrating units, and making sure every lift runs safely and smoothly. You'll also help diagnose and repair issues on existing stairlifts and occasionally pick up equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install stairlifts in customers' homes: mounting curved and straight rail systems, connecting electrical components, and calibrating units for safe, smooth operation.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on stairlifts, including motors, batteries, sensors, and rail alignment.
- Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and repairs on previously installed units.
- Pick up stairlift equipment (2-5 times per week) using your own truck; mileage reimbursement provided.
- Keep the shop organized and stairlift inventory in good working order at our Aurora location.
Qualifications
- Solid mechanical and basic electrical skills; comfortable reading wiring diagrams and using hand/power tools.
- Prior experience installing or repairing stairlifts strongly preferred; will also consider experience with elevators, HVAC, appliance repair, or similar electromechanical installation work.
- Comfortable working in customers' homes with professionalism, patience, and care — many clients have mobility limitations.
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable truck.
- Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment (up to XX lbs), climb stairs and ladders, and work in tight spaces.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Additional Information
As a nonprofit, our mission is to help veterans and others in need stay mobile and independent in their own homes. If you're solely focused on financial gain, this role may not be the best fit. However, if you're passionate about skilled, hands-on work that makes a real difference, we'd love to hear from you!
