Role Description The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Springfield, MO. This role is responsible for creating and revising detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models for custom stainless steel tanks, vessels, and related process equipment based on customer specifications and engineering requirements. Day-to-day tasks include preparing construction and fabrication drawings, developing layout and assembly drawings, and ensuring designs comply with applicable codes and standards. The CAD Designer collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and shop and field teams to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support efficient fabrication and installation. The role also involves maintaining drawing standards, updating documentation, and assisting with design improvements for manufacturability, safety, and performance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reads and interprets customer documents, design specifications and data sheets for drawing implementation. Prepares design, pre-buy, and sales sketches. Identifies design concerns and areas of uncertainty that need clarification.
- Creates accurate “to scale” fabrication drawings. Completes “as-built” and certified drawings. Prepares weld map charts. Applies concepts such as fractions, decimals and tolerances to satisfy drawing geometric requirements. Reviews and self-checks own drawings and retains a copy for file.
- Assists shop and sales personnel regarding drawing interpretation, dimensions, design concepts, clarification, etc. Participates in teleconferences with customers to resolve design issues.
- Completes and distributes drawings. Completes electronic transmittals and sends drawings via Microsoft TEAMs. Completes spare parts list for documentation package requirements. Delivers completed drawings to Manufacturing.
- Completes drawings on time. Maintains job file. Redlines quotes, data sheets and other documentation to accurately reflect design changes. Reviews and analyzes assigned job folders for completeness.
- Prepares heat code charts for Quality Control Manager to track heat numbers.
- Attends and participates in weekly Engineering meeting. Reports daily progress to Design Supervisor and provide realistic estimates of drawing completion.
- Contacts vendors to request and gather component design information to incorporate into drawings.
- Follows all safety guidelines as noted in Safety Manual.
- Assists all supervisors and performs other duties as needed and directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of ASME and API codes preferred.
- Knowledge of Inventor and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of Microsoft TEAMs
- Knowledge of design standards, procedures, and policies
- Knowledge of shop, quality control procedures
- Skill in organizing, maintaining and managing information, keeping the file current and establishing documentation for each source of information
- Skill in understanding and identifying necessary steps in completing a project.

- Ability to work with others, communicate effectively and professionally, and understand and explain design concepts.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 6 months to 1-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
