Duties and responsibilities
As the Production Services Show Lead (Audio Specialist), you will oversee the preparation, setup, operation, and breakdown of audio and integrated AV systems for live events and rental projects. You will work closely with the Operations Manager, Warehouse Manager, and clients to ensure seamless event execution while maintaining equipment quality and team efficiency. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences.
Duties and responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical lead for audio systems at events, ensuring all equipment is show-ready and meets quality standards. Coordinate and lead on-site teams during load-in, setup, show operation, and loadout. Maintain strong clientcommunication before and during events, ensuring all requirements are clearly understood and met.
- Oversee and perform detailed inspections and maintenance of audio, lighting, video, and rigging equipment; ensure all gear is clean, organized, and functional.
- Manage inventory, including cross-checking incoming and outgoing gear, sub-rentals, and vehicle staging.
- Supervise truckloads and manage logistics for event-related equipment and vehicles.
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and company standards, including proper dress code and equipment handling protocols.
- Support warehouse operations during non-show periods, including shop organization, maintenance, and inventory control.
- Stay current with new technologies and industry trends, actively seeking training and cross-training opportunities.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certificate in Audio Engineering or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in live event production, audio system operation, or AV rental services.
- Proficiency with Windows-based software (Word, Excel, and basic audio software platforms).
Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of audio systems, signal flow, mixing consoles, wireless systems, and related equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical documents, safety manuals, and schematics.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to dynamic on-site conditions.
- Effective written and verbal communication; capable of leading crews and liaising with clients and subcontractors.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; capable of prioritizing multiple tasks under pressure.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain industry certifications (lift/boom, forklift, scissor lift).
Working conditions
- Frequent work in both indoor and outdoor environments, potentially in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise levels, mechanical equipment, and elevated workspaces.
- Must be able to travel to event sites and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs occasionally.
- Comfortable standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, or working in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) for equipment setup, troubleshooting, and safe operation.
