Position Summary

The Energy Marshal serves as the project subject matter expert for energy isolation, energization planning, and electrical safety during construction and commissioning activities. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the project's Energy Isolation Program to ensure the safe management of electrical, mechanical, and stored energy systems.

Working closely with project teams, trade partners, commissioning personnel, and client representatives, the Energy Marshal ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, client requirements, and safety standards while supporting successful startup and commissioning of mission critical facilities. The position plays a key role in preventing injuries, equipment damage, and operational disruptions associated with energization activities.

Essential Responsibilities

Energy Management & Isolation

• Lead the implementation and administration of the project's Energy Isolation Program.
• Develop, review, and approve Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for construction, startup, and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate all system energization, de-energization, and re-energization activities.
• Verify zero-energy states and ensure proper isolation of electrical and mechanical systems prior to work.
• Review switching procedures, one-line diagrams, and commissioning sequences before execution.
• Maintain current documentation of energized systems, boundaries, and restricted access areas.

Safety Leadership

• Serve as the site's authority on Control of Hazardous Energy (COHE) practices.
• Conduct field audits, inspections, and compliance reviews related to energized work and isolation activities.
• Identify hazardous conditions and ensure timely corrective action.
• Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
• Lead safety briefings and pre-task planning meetings involving energization activities.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or non-compliant activities are observed.

Project Coordination

• Collaborate with superintendents, trade contractors, commissioning teams, owners, and facility operators.
• Review permits and high-risk work activities involving energized equipment.
• Coordinate energization schedules to minimize risk and project disruptions.
• Assist in resolving field conflicts involving system ownership, isolation boundaries, or commissioning interfaces.
• Provide regular status updates to project leadership regarding energy management activities.

Training & Compliance

• Conduct Energy Isolation and LOTO training for project personnel.
• Verify qualifications and authorization levels of personnel performing energized work.
• Promote compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, client standards, and safety policies.
• Maintain records of permits, audits, inspections, and training activities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to energy control and commissioning safety.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
• 5 years of construction safety, electrical construction, commissioning, or mission critical project experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Control of Hazardous Energy programs.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and MEP infrastructure.
• Ability to read and interpret:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project documentation systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Data center, mission critical, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or industrial construction experience.
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
• NFPA 70E Training.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or equivalent.
• Licensed Electrician or extensive electrical field experience.
• Experience managing energization and commissioning activities on large-scale projects.
