Job Description
Park Supervisor assists with the supervision, operation, and maintenance of parks and facilities. This position works both inside and outside, supervising and monitoring park activities, facility operations, and recreation programs. Works under close supervision of the Recreation Manager and Recreation Facilities Coordinator. Work assignments and supervision are closely monitored and reviewed by the Recreation Manager.
The hiring range for this position is from $16.19/hour to $22.27/hour based on experience.The full salary range for this position is from $16.19/hour to 28.34/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
- Assists, collaborates, and cooperates with full-time and part-time parks and facilities maintenance personnel to maintain our parks and facilities;
- Performs park and facility opening and closing duties;
- Provides excellent customer service, information, and assistance to the public and/or special interest groups pertaining to the use of all Parks, Recreation, Facilities and Tourism (PRFT) parks, and facilities;
- Informs visitors of park rules and regulations;
- Monitors County property by vehicle or on foot to ensure safety and security of visitors, park grounds, buildings, and equipment;
- Records and reports accidents, incidents, vandalism, and theft;
- Responds to visitor inquiries and provides information and assistance in person and over the telephone;
- Exercises a supervisory role over subordinate staff members;
- Ensures cleanliness of restroom facilities, buildings, and ensures that grounds are maintained and that trash is removed;
- Records and reports all unsafe conditions to the on-call Parks Maintenance District Supervisor, on-call Building Maintenance Mechanic or the Recreation Facility Coordinator;
- Performs park and facility attendant duties as needed and carries out additional duties as assigned by the Recreation Manager or Recreation Facilities Coordinator;
- Promotes a cohesive working relationship with school personnel, user groups, and staff;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of computers;
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public;
- Ability to understand, follow, and give oral instructions;
- Ability to learn the operations of the department, parks, and facilities;
- Ability to gain a working knowledge of the organization, rules and regulations;
- Demonstrated supervisory skills;
- Ability to make minor repairs on equipment and buildings as needed;
- Flexibility and ability to perform all duties of other part-time employees as needed;
- Availability to work a variable work schedule, which may include early and late hours, weekends, holidays, and additional hours during peak operating season; and
- Ability to obtain Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification through the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) may be required.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with a minimum of two years’ experience or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
