Job Summary And Purpose
The Preventive Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance on heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment throughout the school system. This individual is also responsible for making recommendations to the Coordinator of Physical Plants.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
Education Attainment (Required):
High School diploma or equivalent. Or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Education Attainment (Preferred)
Technical Training or coursework in HVAC systems, refrigeration, electrical systems or a related building operations field preferred.
Manufacturer’s training courses in HVAC systems, food service equipment, or refrigeration preferred.
Ongoing evidence of mental and physical competence to perform assigned responsibilities may be required from a qualified physician.

Job Summary And Purpose
The Preventive Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance on heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment throughout the school system. This individual is also responsible for making recommendations to the Coordinator of Physical Plants.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
- Perform preventive maintenance and semi-skill repairs on heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, ventilation systems, electrical, plumbing and low voltage systems.
- Assist higher skill level employees in more complex maintenance work.
- Attend classes or seminars related to the repair and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment and systems.
- Required: Attendance during inclement weather.
- Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.

Relevant Experience (Required)
- Experience with Direct Digital Control and Energy Management Systems. An applicant with prior experience in a related position must have a performance rating acceptable to Stafford County Public Schools.
- Demonstrated experience performing preventative maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, food service, or ventilation systems.
- Experience reading architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specifications preferred.
- Current EPA-approved CFC Universal Certificate required.
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
- HVAC certifications (e.g., NATE, EPA 608) is preferred.
- Manufacturer’s training certifications in HVAC systems, food service equipment, or refrigeration preferred.
- OSHA or Hazard Communication safety training certifications preferred.
- Ability to work an evening shift (time frame to be determined)
- Operational knowledge of HVAC systems, food service equipment, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems, including tools and equipment required for maintenance and repair.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical defects in a variety of equipment and to take appropriate corrective action.
- Demonstrated ability to assess day-to-day priorities and direct staff to effectively complete required tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written directions; knowledge of English grammar and usage.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers and software as related to duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specifications.
- Ability to read, understand, and implement operational manuals of the plants.
- Knowledge of mandated safety regulations such as OSHA, Hazard Communication, etc.
- Ability to travel in own vehicle during the workday.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Required: Willingness to work flexible hours, during inclement weather, and be available on call as needed.
- Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.

- Maintain a clean, neat appearance and dress appropriate to position and duties.
