Veterinary Technician I

Job Title: Veterinary Technician ILocation: New York, NY 10032Contract Duration: 4 months, 2 weeks, 5 daysPay Rate: $25–$30/hr on W2Schedule: 35 hours/week OT; possible weekends/holidaysJob Description:The Veterinary Technician Level I provides veterinary technical assistance to the veterinary staff and researchers while delivering clinical care for research animals. Responsibilities include performing routine health care procedures and daily animal clinical evaluations.Responsibilities:• Perform daily animal health evaluations.• Assess animals in assigned areas and report abnormalities to an ICM veterinarian.• Provide treatments as directed by the veterinarian.• Communicate findings and treatment plans to researchers and husbandry supervisors.• Document animal health issues, diagnostic plans, diagnoses, and treatments.• Provide technical support during surgeries.• Support researchers with procedures such as animal handling/restraint, sample collection, dose administration, surgical support, euthanasia, necropsy, and tissue harvest.• Assist in training on safe and humane handling, restraint, and manipulation of research animals.• Administer the sentinel animal/colony health monitoring program and collect samples.• Maintain inventory and records of clinical equipment and annual equipment services.• Maintain isoflurane machines.• Ensure cleanliness of prep/procedure rooms and surgical areas; assist in SOP and guideline development; follow SOPs for safety and biosecurity.• Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, completion of an Animal Husbandry program, or equivalent education/experience.• Knowledge of related laboratory procedures preferred.• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).Other Requirements:• Mandatory weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis.• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs; frequently move up to 50 lbs.• One year of related experience preferred.Company DescriptionStaffing Company (Confidential)
