Job: Assistant Produce Manager
SCOPE OF POSITION:
Reporting directly to the Store Director (SD), is responsible for day-to-day Produce department operations and assigned personnel. Provides day-to-day coordination/direction over Produce Associates. Assists in direct performance of duties and responsibilities of Produce personnel on a day-to-day basis.
BASIC FUNCTION: Effectively and efficiently manages Produce operations and assigned personnel to achieve established department sales, marketing and profit goals. Promotes and maintains positive customer and employee relations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide day-to-day direction coordination, motivation and follow up regarding assigned personnel.
  • Promotes and maintains compliance to store and Produce department policies, procedures and processes.
  • Ensures product availability, quality, variety, freshness, proper display and access meets established standards.
  • Ensures that the Produce department and department personnel adhere to Company, local, state and federal health and civil code regulations relating to product handling/processing and related health regulations and sanitary procedures.
  • Places orders from warehouse.
  • Able to write weekly work schedules to ensure all assigned shifts are properly staffed.
  • Able to provide coordination, delegation and follow up of department personnel to ensure maximum performance. Audits performance and takes appropriate/timely corrective action as required.
  • Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, positive, team oriented, customer-focused attitude within internal store personnel and between all store locations. Leads by example.
  • Keeps Produce Manager and Store Director informed of concerns, issues, etc. warranting their attention, knowledge of, action and/or resolution in a timely manner.
  • Works in unison with all management team to achieve store objectives.
  • Promote and maintain positive customer service and relations.
  • Provides direction, motivation, coordination, support, training/cross training, development, and follow-up of assigned personnel.
  • Responsible for timely performance/development evaluation for assigned personnel.
  • Able to perform related duties/functions of produce operations and produce Associate job functions.
  • Review time and attendance of associates and take appropriate action per review and approval of Produce Manager and Store Director.
  • Able to work varied shifts and meet attendance requirements.
  • Maintain department records, files, accounts and databases in areas of responsibility as required. Ensures security and confidentiality of assigned company records, financial records, databases, file, etc.
  • Keeps Store Director, assistant manager, lead personnel aware of concerns, issues, etc. warranting their attention, knowledge of, action and/or resolution in a timely manner.
  • Notifies Store Director on personnel or policy violations requiring SD attention and/or requires disciplinary action.
  • Ensures department personnel present a neat, well-groomed appearance and wear appropriate store attire and nametag.
  • Maintain effective housekeeping on a regular basis.
  • Able to meet and maintain expected performance level for the essential job functions required in this position.

  • Able to perform other duties as deemed necessary by Store Director or Assistant Store Manager.

  • As a member of our management team, understand that with our having multiple store locations, you could be expected to assist such locations, when warranted and/or be "open to transfer opportunities" to such locations if such need/opportunities arose.
Position Specific Requirements:
  • Sound working knowledge of Produce operations, practices and procedures within a retail grocery environment desired.
  • Able to effectively and efficiently provide direction, coordination, day-to-day follow-up, training and development and performance evaluation of department personnel.
  • Supervisory or management experience preferred with such experience in retail a plus.
  • Project a positive business image and lead by example.
  • Able to work efficiently/effectively in a fast paces multi changing work environment.
  • Excellent administrative teams building, mentoring, organization, coordination, and attention to detail and follow through skills.
  • Excellent customer relations, communications and problem solving skills.
  • Effectively work with people of varied socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Able to do basic PC entries required in this position
  • Able to meet Physical & Environmental requirement of job.
  • Be self-directed and results oriented.
  • Able to write and adjust weekly work schedules.
  • Able to work varied hours and shifts as required.
  • Able to work with Produce department supplies, products and department sanitation supplies. (Not be allergic to products, supplies or have problems with smells.)
  • Able to operate department equipment in a safe and efficient manner. (Must be 18 years of age older)
  • Able to meet and maintain job productivity, attendance, punctuality, safety requirements and wear sanitary and/or safety attire.
  • Due to nature of direct contact with and processing of food products for consumption, is able to meet and maintain personal and department health and sanitary practices to protect public from exposure/contamination of product handled/processed within established State Health Regulations/Mandates. (Note: We will provide reasonable accommodations for personal situation as warranted to meet and maintain State Health Regulations/Mandates.)

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS OPERATED: Proficient skill in operation of standard department equipment, which may include mixers, grinders, scales, fryers, knives and sanitizing equipment.
