Laboratory Scientist in Augusta, ME

1. Overview
Laboratory Scientist: Assist lab staff with various tasks such as processing samples,
staining sample slides, setting up cultures on various media, reading stained slides, performing real time
polymerase chain reaction tests, and sending out samples to reference labs.
2. Knowledge, Skills and Certifications
Four (4) year combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates knowledge of medical or environmental technology and/or analytical chemistry and laboratory equipment, testing, and techniques, including:
o Data Entry
o Documentation practices
o Multi-tasking
o Attention to detail
o Working in a team environment
o Working in a fast-paced setting
o Standing for long periods of time.
2. Training, education, or experience in administrative support work that demonstrates:
o Excellent interpersonal skills and critical thinking
o Excellent communication skills
o Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
o Ability to speak, read, and write English
o Experience working in a lab setting
o Ability to lift at least thirty-five (35) pounds
o Ability to sort specimens using a numbering system
o Proficiency with computers; experience with Word processing software, spreadsheets, and
data entry
o Ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information
to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures

3. Preferred Skills and Qualifications
o Knowledge of medical terminology
o Familiarity with handling biohazardous waste
o Familiarity with performing laboratory testing

4. Outline of specific job duties:
Technical Laboratorian responsibilities include but are not limited to:

o The above duties AND:
o Preparing patient samples for testing
o Perform testing on patient samples
o Enter results in lab database
o Report results to submitter
o Handle phone calls from doctors, laboratories, and other submitters
o Follow all standard operating procedures as outlined in the section manual
o Follow safe work practices
5. Schedule
Contract employees will work with supervisor to determine best work schedule. A typical will be 8
hours within the 7:00AM to 5:00PM time frame. No on-call is expected. Time off will be granted
based on operational need.

Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. This position is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship including H-1B sponsorship) by SSO. Under the federal laws relating to the F-1 STEM EAD program, SSO may be able to support a STEM EAD extension application at the sole discretion of your Designated School Official.
