Position Overview
The Food Safety Quality Assurance General Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all company-wide food safety and quality assurance programs across nationwide operations. This role ensures compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and regulatory mandates from agencies such as the FDA and USDA.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, results-driven leader who can immediately step into a high-impact role—managing a distributed QC team, conducting internal audits, overseeing food safety systems, and driving continuous improvement across multiple locations. This position requires frequent travel and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop Quality Control teams across multiple states
- Ensure consistency, collaboration, and adherence to quality standards across all locations and time zones
- Develop, implement, and maintain food safety and quality systems, including HACCP
- Manage programs aligned with SQF, USDA, FDA, GFSI, BRCGS, and customer-specific requirements
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, local, and customer food safety regulations
- Prepare for and manage regulatory inspections and third-party audits
- Conduct scheduled and unannounced internal audits, peer reviews, and site inspections
- Oversee daily QC operations within warehouse and production environments
- Partner with cross-functional leadership to align quality objectives with operational goals
- Collaborate with Logistics and Service Center Managers to identify inefficiencies
- Implement best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives company-wide
- Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Lead quarterly performance reviews and support professional development plans
- Investigate customer complaints and on-site quality concerns
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement CAPA strategies
- Train teams on food safety protocols, SOPs, and quality standards
- Maintain comprehensive quality records, manuals, and documentation
- Prepare management reports, financial summaries, and industry trend analyses
- Align food safety and quality initiatives with overall business strategy
- Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and safety standards
- Promote a strong culture of food safety and workplace safety
Qualifications
Required
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in food safety, quality assurance, or compliance within food manufacturing
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Public Health, Microbiology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience managing multi-location, cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel regularly and work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
