Pathologist Assistant
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Shift: Full-Time | 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM (flexibility required)
The Pathologist Assistant performs accessioning, dissection, histologic sampling, and gross examination of a wide range of anatomical specimens under the supervision of a pathologist. This role supports surgical pathology operations through specimen processing, intraoperative consultations, quality assurance, and adherence to established laboratory protocols and safety standards.
Essential Job Duties- Perform accessioning, gross examination, dissection, and histologic sampling of anatomical specimens following established procedures and protocols.
- Conduct frozen sections and other intraoperative consultations within defined procedural guidelines.
- Accurately describe specimens and measurements using standardized dictation methods when appropriate.
- Verify specimen identity and labeling to ensure patient safety and prevent errors.
- Select appropriate specimen cassettes and initiate tissue processing procedures as required.
- Participate in specialized procedures and research-related protocols as assigned.
- Safely operate laboratory equipment and maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Train, mentor, and support students and newly hired staff members.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to specimen processing and examinations.
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, laboratory personnel, and healthcare professionals.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a health science, biological science, or related field required.
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program preferred.
- Current certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA-ASCP) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and pathology specimen handling.
- Ability to recognize various tissue types and biopsy specimens.
- Proficiency in specimen grossing, dictation, and documentation practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and identify effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

- Ability to use dictation equipment effectively and communicate clearly.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
